2023 Last Movies
Last Movies remaps the century of cinema according to the final films watched by some of its cultural icons, giving an audience the opportunity to ‘see what those who see no more last saw’.
Last Movies is a publication (Tenement Press, 2023), film programme and multimedium artwork. Programme notes authored by Erika Balsom can be viewed here. The book can be ordered here in paperback and here in hardback, with a ‘last word’ from Nicole Brenez and an ‘intermission’ by Bill Drummond. Last Movies premiered at Light Industry in NYC on 4 November, and had a monthly residency at the ICA in London (22 November 2023—12 March 2024). The programme was developed with the support of Batalha Centro de Cinema, Porto, and has shown for twenty-four hours without pause or repeat at ZDB, Lisboa (March 2024), and at PAF Olomouc (December 2023).
